Technology today has meant that fewer children than ever are playing sport and staying active. This has been a major reason for rising obesity levels and other health problems amongst youngsters. The start of a New Year can be a great excuse to sign your kids up to different classes, ensuring they remain healthy and active, while having loads of fun at the same time.
Here are 5 tips that can help your child stay active throughout the year:
Do Your Research
From football to tennis to dancing, there are certainly lots of different programmes that are available for children. It is important to do your research and choose the one that you feel is appropriate. To learn more about Kiddikicks kids football classes and what we offer, feel free to check out our website or give us a call and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Don’t Overdo It
It can be far too tempting at times to enrol our children into every sporting activity available. It is important to note that this can have a negative, counter-productive effect. Too many after-school clubs and classes can make your child think of them as more of a chore than fun activities. Kiddikicks offers classes during the week and at the weekends so there should be a class which suits your player.
Listen to Your Child
There are a number of different types of classes that your child may have tried over the last few years. Choosing the right sport can be tough and it might be worth asking them what they prefer, rather than what you think they prefer. You might be surprised by their response! At Kiddikicks, we offer free trials so you can see if it’s right for you and your child, before committing to anything.
Explain What’s Important
Children can often be fixated on winning and are unable to see the big picture. As a parent, it is vital to show them that there is far more to a sport than winning and losing. At Kiddikicks, we explain to the children that what’s most important at this age is taking part and enjoying ourselves, rather than keeping score. This way, they always remain enthusiastic and eager to play.
Don’t Compare
All kids are unique and this means that they mature and grow at different ages. Children (and often parents!) can sometimes forget this, and it is easy to become frustrated. This is why, at Kiddikicks, we don’t allow the younger children to compete against each other but instead we play different games which they are allowed to complete at a pace they feel comfortable with.
