In at number 3 eating sand (soil, wood, worms...). Gnashers or not babies and toddlers learn by putting things into their mouth. Did you know a baby’s mouth has more nerve endings per square millimetre than anywhere else in her body so it makes sense while fine motor skills are developing, the mouth is really the best option for exploring!
In at number 2 dropping food on the floor. Could this be part scientific experiment and part light-entertainment? Either way we’ve got a couple of great solutions, allow your little one to picnic on the floor or give her a bucket and see if she can get some target practice in!
In at number 1 laugh at the same thing over and over again. This is every family's favourite toddler behaviour and a great de-stresser. A funny-bone favourite for babies is of course Peek-a-boo but anything out of the realm of the ordinary (a nappy on Daddy’s head or a little sock on a big nose or even a goofy voice) will likely illicit peels of laughter as children’s sense of the world develops further (nearing age 2) they start to find humour in the breaking of learned patterns – the cow used to go moo, now the cow goes baaaa! Oh no it doesn’t! Carry on laughing folks!
We'd love to hear your toddler stories that deserve a royal mention!
